London based Italian author Francesca Lombardo brings enjoyment, hope, courage, determination and urban culture to young people with her newly released children’s book series – Beatrice and the London Bus. Her stories resemble a modern London take of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland with lots of humorous, inspiring and empowering contemporary fairy tale features and a classic feel for children and parents alike. It all kicks off from Beatrice’s dream of becoming a London bus Driver. In the 150th anniversary of Alice in Wonderland it’s great to see another child heroine taking on a traditionally male task. She shows personality and determination, hence she is setting an example for young girls. The book series also encourages children to develop the fundamental aspects of social responsibility making them familiar with the aspects of being part of an important community, like the one of a big city like London. The book series has even received an endorsement from the Culture team at the Mayor of London’s office. They said: “We very much enjoyed the Author’s story idea and we really appreciate her enthusiasm and passion for London. We wish the very best of success to this wonderful story.” The Author is not stopping there and is currently writing BOOK 4 and 5 which will see Beatrice and the London Bus travelling through Paris, Rome, New York, Las Vegas, LA and other countries around the world (China, India). We cannot wait to read those stories! Francesca is also working in partnership with some London Children Charities for a series of activities related to the books. Beatrice and the London Bus book series is available from Amazon and  www.beatriceandthelondonbus.co.uk

PRESS RELEASE
2016 will see a major movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s iconic story THE BFG, directed by Steven Spielberg. “THE BFG has enchanted families and their children for more than three decades,” said Spielberg in a statement. “We are honoured that the Roald Dahl estate has entrusted us with this classic story.” The movie will be written by Melissa Mathison, who last teamed up with Spielberg on “E.T.”. It will be produced for DreamWorks by Frank Marshall with Michael Siegel and John Madden as executive producers. Production will begin in early 2015, with a planned release in 2016 – the year which marks the centenary of Roald Dahl’s birth.” Luke Kelly, Roald Dahl’s grandson and incoming Managing Director of the Literary Estate, says: “Roald Dahl’s family and literary estate are both delighted that Steven Spielberg will bring his inventive genius to directing the story of the BFG and that one of Roald’s most beloved stories and characters will be brought to the screen in 2016 – a year when we will be celebrating Roald Dahl’s Centenary!” THE BFG was first published in 1982, though the character of the dream-blowing giant first appeared in print seven years earlier in Dahl’s novel DANNY, THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD (1975). The B(ig) F(riendly) G(iant) is one of Roald Dahl’s most loveable creations. He’s a friendly, dream-blowing giant with enormous ears – enabling him to hear “all the secret whisperings of the world” – and a passion for “snozzcumbers”. “frobscottle” and “whizzpopping”. When the BFG snatches Sophie from her orphanage, she is in for the adventure of her young life, which ranges from encounters with fiercer man-eating giants to breakfast with the Queen of England. THE BFG was Roald’s own favourite amongst his own books, according to his widow Felicity Dahl. The book is also Sir Quentin Blake’s favourite of his many collaborations with Roald Dahl. When illustrating the tale, Blake struggled to find the right shoes for the BFG to wear – in the end, Roald sent him one of his own giant Norwegian sandals to inspire him. It did the trick and the sandal is now proudly on display at the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire, UK

KIDS COMPANY LONDON

Kids Company operates through four centres and a therapy house in London.

We also offer therapeutic and social work services in over 40 schools.

Our unique multidisciplinary approach combines health, housing, emotional wellbeing, mental health, arts, sports, youth justice, education and employment. These interventions are designed to strengthen, supplement or substitute the child’s parenting experience.

Our aim is to first stabilize each young person by meeting their practical needs, before helping them to address emotional and behavioural difficulties. Once the young person has achieved some sense of stability and calm, we help them to identify talents and interests and so develop aspirations for the future.
